A contemplative experience where image, silence and spirituality met.
The film screening allowed us to cross the threshold between image and contemplation. Through stories, symbols, and shared experiences, the participants explored new ways of perceiving feminine spirituality and the inner paths of transformation.
These documentaries speak to us of mysticism and approaches to contemporary feminine spirituality and the experiences of women of faith from different parts of the world.
The screening of these documentaries is a way to honor the strength and value of women's perspectives and visions within sacred universes. Through their testimonies, important themes about the experience of the sacred are opened up for all women of faith.
"Every threshold is an invitation to leave behind the familiar and open oneself to transformation."Mystical Cinema Screening
It was an honor for the Lex Hixon Center for Contemplative Studies and the Sufi Community to host such a significant event, one that strengthens the space for women and the feminine, and highlights the vital relevance of their contributions when they are given the space to express themselves in the spiritual realm and within religious organizations of all sacred traditions, such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. “Women on the Threshold” is the title we gave to the selection of short films focusing on five women from different sacred traditions and cultures. These documentaries were crafted with exceptional sensitivity, brilliance, and mastery by American filmmaker Sean Dimond, with cinematography by Johnny Valencia. This screening is not only an event to offer due recognition to these filmmakers who dedicate their work to mysticism and the relationship with the Divine in its vast array of manifestations across the globe. It is also a splendid way to honor the strength and value of women's perspectives and visions within sacred universes, as well as their contributions. Through their testimonies, important topics about the experience of the sacred are opened up for all women of faith.
All of this was made possible thanks to many people, and to all of them, especially filmmaker Sean Dimond, we express our deepest gratitude and wish him continued success with his penetrating gaze into the spiritual realm. We thank the Network of Women of Faith and remember Religions for Peace and the Interreligious Council of Mexico, as they are our allies in advancing gender equality.
The humanistic and transcendent spirit of Lex Hixon, a constant source of inspiration for the Center for Contemplative Studies that bears his name, embraces every human being as they are and pursues balance in all dimensions of divine human life. Supporting the presence, visibility, and voices of the community of women of faith in all sacred traditions is part of the mission that CECLH recognizes as its own.
